Following my meeting with Dr Helen Nicholson, the prostate oncologist, she arranged for me to see Dr Steven Chin, a radiology oncologist, with whom she also works close, and with Dr Tincknell. They are part of the same multidisciplinary team that meets weekly to review their cases. We met on Wednesday 30 August. At the same time, I met Sarah Collareda, who was to be my Cancer Care Nurse. I can call on Sarah if I have any issues and she will provide guidance and help whenever needed.
Dr Chin had reviewed my file and all the scans and results. He explained that radiology was not required at this stage. The cancer in my bones was too widespread for radiology, which is a targeted treatment. If, after the 6 chemo sessions, any cancer remains locally in my bones and or within the prostate, he will look to undertake radiotherapy to target those specific areas. He also recommended a trial I could join. He felt there was a better drug than the Degarelix, which has to be administered monthly. He felt LUCRIN would be as effective and only needs to be injected 6 monthly. That sounded good to me!
I have another appointment with Dr Chin, at the end of the chemo sessions, on 2 February 2024.
